One good workout has finally made its way out of me. I ran great this morning and I wish I would've ran a little bit faster. We had 4x800's , 1x1200, 3x600's. I wasn't looking forward to it...at all haha. But when I realized we were training on the track today, I kind of got pumped. I love track! It reminds me of the "glory days". I didn't realize what that meant until now. Coming into college I knew I wouldn't win meets like I did in high school. I knew it was going to be a big transition and I'd have to work really hard to create new glory days, but I had no clue how much slower I was than all my other competitors.
Soon enough I was starting to get into great shape; until I got tonsillitis. It sucked :( Since then I grew lazy. I didn't run over the summer like I should have and I'm paying the price for it. I just couldn't get motivated. It was like I was scared of something that was once my passion. Chris got me a book called Once A Runner. It stayed on my dresser for the rest of the summer. I couldn't even open it. It was so intimidating. I knew I'd feel even worse reading it because I hadn't been putting my all into my training. I have yet to read it, but it's time for that to change. I'm pretty sure I'm going to start reading it as soon as I can. I need to get through this mental barrier I've made. At least I got through it a little bit today. One day at a time.

This morning was a hard workout but I think our team did amazing. Everyone ran so much faster than the last 6 mile tempo and I'm glad we have a fast enough team to be able to push each other. I think Sara did the best out of all of us because she decided to go through with an 8 mile tempo even though she an early class, and she has improved so much. I'm really proud of her and I can't wait to see what our team can do in track.

"Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up. It knows it must outrun the fastest lion or it will be killed. Every morning in Africa, a lion wakes up. It knows it must run faster than the slowest gazelle, or it will starve. It doesn't matter whether you're a lion or gazelle - when the sun comes up, you'd better be running."
- Tribal Saying
I came across this quote a long time ago, but I forgot all about it until now. If you're having trouble waking up in the morning for practice because you're drained or just feeling too damn lazy, (who doesn't from time to time lol) always remember that you will get left behind little by little each day and you won't survive the season. If you decide to skip a practice or slack off, it's going to become really easy to make it a routine and soon enough you'll just find yourself in a rut. Injuries are an exception because you never want to make them worse, but if you're honestly not trying hard enough and half assin everything, you'll never get better. Become the best you can and when the sun comes up, hit the ground running.
I'm not writing any of this to try and put people in "their place". I'm writing this because I didn't run like i was supposed to in the summer. It started off great but little by little I talked myself out of things and like i said, it became a routine of slacking off, and ever since then it's been hard for me to get where I need to be. So don't do what I did. Train to the best of your ability; no matter who you are on the team. Because by the end of the day, if you do what you need to, your slow pace will become faster.

I love butter pancakes
Butter pancakes are for me,
Oh how I love them so,
If you ask how can this be,
Then this is what to know:
Fill them up full of fruit,
Top them off with butter too,
Pour the syrup all around,
Watch me jump up and down
The fluffy texture leaves me breathless,
Every bite seems like a dream,
Joy is what they give I must confess,
For my face shows a beam
Stack it up to the ceiling,
Put a napkin through your top,
On the plate you see a clearing,
So you eat until you pop
Butter pancakes bring people glee,
Even if fat is the price to pay,
Butter pancakes will always be for me,
Each and every night and day.
